Living Dead Girl is a Canadian modern metal band fronted by Molly Rennick. At four years old, she confidently informed her parents that she was going to be a rock star one day. While still relatively unknown outside of her native Canada, the talented 23-year-old Rennick performs like a seasoned professional.
When I first checked out this band, I honestly thought it was going to be a play on Rob Zombie for obvious reasons. When I finally clicked the link I was stunned by how unique and powerful Molly’s vocals are. The more I dug to find out more about the project I discovered there is more to the name than just the instant Zombie thought I had. The aptly titled band name has real life connotations, as the vocalist came into this world with grayish-blue skin and not breathing. By the exact medical definition, Molly was stillborn. What a way to take a look at things in a different light.
Formed in 2017, Living Dead Girl has released three singles independently, while performing shows throughout the Toronto area. To me Living Dead Girl’s musical stew is a unique combination of Marilyn Manson meets Maria Brink of In This Moment. Bringing goth, rock, metal, industrial, pop and punk rock all together.
Rennick recorded her highly-anticipated debut full-length album entitled Exorcism, with prolific producer Mitchell Marlow (In This Moment, All That Remains, New Year’s Day). Initially heading to L.A. in September of 2019 to record a couple of singles just to see how things went, Rennick soon realized that she needed to do a full album with Marlow. Given Marlow’s track record of band’s he has previously worked with, he approached Living Dead Girl with the same edgy, modern production values.
Exorcism is out now for your listening pleasure. Be sure to keep your eyes on this up and coming rocker. She’s gonna hit the music scene by storm
